Thanksgiving meals across the Great Lakes Bay Region

Nonprofits, churches, and community centers are offering meals, pantry items, and additional support for residents in need this holiday season.

Nonprofits, churches, and community centers throughout the Great Lakes Bay Region are preparing a series of free Thanksgiving meals and giveaways for residents in need this holiday season.  

The programs are open to the public, and several organizations are offering transportation, delivery, or walk-in service to make meals more accessible. Some sites will also provide warm clothing, pantry staples, and additional resources for families seeking support. Here is a look at the events: 

Thanksgiving dinner table

Nate & April Thanksgiving Turkey Giveaway 

The 10th annual Nate & April Thanksgiving Turkey Giveaway will take place Friday, Nov. 21, at 7 a.m. at Financial Plus Credit Union, located at 4026 Shattuck Road in Saginaw. The event provides families with a full Thanksgiving meal, including turkey, corn, stuffing, mashed potatoes, and a pie. 

Meals will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis, with one per household. The giveaway is a long-standing Saginaw tradition, helping local families enjoy the holiday season without stress. Organizers encourage attendees to arrive early to ensure they receive a meal.  

Bay City Salvation Army 

The Salvation Army in Bay City will host a Thanksgiving meal on Tuesday, Nov. 25, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at 401 10th St. in Bay City. The dinner is open to everyone in the community, and those planning to attend are asked to register in advance by calling 989-893-3041.  

Midland’s Open Door 

On Thursday, Nov. 27, Midland’s Open Door will provide free to-go Thanksgiving meals as part of its holiday program at 412 W. Buttles Street in Midland. The service is open to all community members, regardless of income or eligibility. 

In addition to holiday meals, Midland’s Open Door offers year-round resources including a food pantry, clothing and household items, utility assistance, and educational materials to support families in need. These services aim to help community members access support and maintain stability throughout the year. 

The Thanksgiving meal is part of Open Door’s continued effort to ensure every member of the community can enjoy the holiday season. Residents are encouraged to participate and share the opportunity with neighbors who may benefit. 

St. Brigid of Kildare 

St. Brigid of Kildare Catholic Church in Midland will host its annual Thanksgiving meal on Thursday, Nov. 27, from 12 to 2 p.m. at 207 Ashman St. The meal is open to all Midland County residents. 

Transportation is available for those living within city limits, and delivery can be arranged for those who are unable to travel. Reservations are required for transportation or delivery and can be made by calling 989-835-7121, ext. 31. 

East Side Soup Kitchen 

The East Side Soup Kitchen in Saginaw will provide a Thanksgiving meal on Thursday, Nov. 27, at 940 E. Genesee Avenue. The program is open to all guests; no reservations are required and walk-ins are welcome. 

The East Side Soup Kitchen continues to provide essential meals and support to the community year-round, ensuring that everyone has access to food during and after the holiday season. For more information, call 989-755-3663. 

Additional Resources 

Michigan residents looking for holiday meal programs, food pantries, or other resources can call 2-1-1, a free statewide hotline that connects callers with support. The service is available 24 hours a day and can provide information on food, housing, utilities, and other community programs.
